5 photos that you need to take on your maternity photoshoot

Plus a sneak peek at my own maternity shoot with never before shared bump photos

Truth be told, I never thought I would have a pregnancy photoshoot done, I don’t know why but it’s just not very me. I prefer to take photos of other people, to capture really natural moments on my phone, you know the ones where people are laughing and playing. In actual fact, I hate my photo being taken so much that I have precisely 3 photos of me during my first pregnancy, I’m not lying, I honestly didn’t take any bump photos at all.

I really regret not having any bump photos to look back on though

If you know me by now then you know that one of the main reasons why I don’t have any bump photos was partly due to the fact that I suffered from horrendous pregnancy anxiety, you can read my story here. I didn’t even capture the hospital photo of me holding my daughter in my arms after birth, I will forever regret not getting that photo.

So, this time round, I forced myself to take bump photos for my ‘business’, that’s what I kept telling myself, take the photo for your social media and website, so that’s what I did and I found it so awkward to begin with but something amazing happened,

I started to love my pregnant body…

I was capturing the transformation and it was lovely to look at the journey that my body and baby were going through. I started to realise that my body was incredible and whilst I was still finding it slightly ‘cringe’ to take selfies all the time, I loved looking back on the photos. But a maternity photo shoot was a whole other ball game to taking a quick selfie in my bedroom mirror.

It’s well out of my comfort zone to pose for a maternity shoot…

I was adamant I wasn’t going to do one but then I met the lovely Lucy from Lucy Rose Photography at a blogging event. I followed her on Instagram and her images were just beautiful, so natural, simple and crisp. Lucy assured me that if I booked a pregnancy shoot with her we didn’t have to make it awkward and even suggested I bring my husband and daughter along for some family photos too, I loved this idea. So, off we headed to Lucy’s studio in York where she welcomed us and made us instantly feel at ease.

I am so pleased I captured these images on the pregnancy photo shoot

Honestly, I just love all the images we got from Lucy and just in case you are wondering, this isn’t an AD, I paid in full for the shoot and it was money well spent to treasure these memories forever.

I thought I would share some of my favourite images with you from my maternity shoot in case you are looking for some inspiration and wondering which ones make me smile the most.
