Frequently Asked Questions.

What is hypnobirthing?

A load of rubbish right? Wrong. In a nut shell, hypnobirthing is a full birth preparation course, similar to any other antenatal class you might have heard of before. However, we go the extra mile and teach you techniques to help you feel calm, confident and in control during labour. Hypnobirthing can increase the likelihood of having a positive birth with less need for pain relief and the potential for a shorter labour. The best way to learn about my hypnobirthing courses is to watch the short video below:

Will I be hypnotised?

The ‘hypno’ part of hypnobirthing refers to self-hypnosis, it is not the type of hypnosis that you see on TV. Achieving a state of self-hypnosis means that you are in a deep state of relaxation. This is important for labour as we want the body and in particular the muscles of the uterus to be nice and relaxed so that they can work to get your baby out, we don’t want to be fighting or resisting the body.

The more relaxed you are during labour, the more comfortable you can feel and the more efficient labour can be. You will learn techniques on my courses to help you enter into this deep state of relaxation when giving birth. It takes time and practice to be able to develop the skill of relaxation. I know what you are thinking, I’ve never seen someone give birth before and think “they look relaxed” but believe me it is possible.

Is hypnobirthing right for me?

Absolutely. Hypnobirthing can be used for any type of birth, it doesn’t matter where you are planning to give birth or how, you can still use all of the techniques that I teach you on my courses.

You can access 24 positive birth stories from my clients by clicking the link below. 1 positive birth story per week straight to your inbox. You can read and see just have varied the stories, they all have one thing in common, they benefited from using hypnobirthing in some way.

When is the best time to start a hypnobirthing course?

Ideally you will need time after your course has finished to practise everything that I teach you. I recommend starting a hypnobirthing course between 20 and 30 weeks of pregnancy, this will give you plenty of time to practise all of the techniques. Don’t worry if you are beyond 30 weeks pregnant, I do have offer an intensive course which could be perfect for you

Can my partner come to the course too?

Yes of course. I recommend that birth partners attend a hypnobirthing course as they will be the one that supports you during labour. They have plenty to do and plenty to learn so I always suggest that they attend all of the sessions.

Please don’t worry if your birth partner is skeptical (I had to drag my husband to our hypnobirthing class). I promise there is nothing weird that happens and they will leave feeling fully prepared for birth.

Will hypnobirthing guarantee me a pain free birth?

It is certainly possible to have a pain free birth (I had one myself and so have some of my clients). We know that using hypnobirthing during labour can help to reduce our levels of pain and help us to feel more comfortable, however, pain is subjective so whilst hypnobirthing will certainly help, I cannot guarantee you a pain free birth.

I do know however that hypnobirthing is a great tool to help us relax during labour which in turn can help to reduce the levels of pain that we might experience. Find out more by reading the blog post below.

Can I still use hypnobirthing if I have a caesarean birth?

Yes of course, you can still use all of your hypnobirthing techniques for a caesarean birth.

Hypnobirthing is for all types of births but I have recently developed a bespoke caesarean birth course that is dedicated to anyone planning a caesarean birth.

If you attend any of my courses, we discuss all types of births, however if your birth plans change to a caesarean birth, I am more than happy to send you all of the caesarean birth resources for free, including the calm caesarean workbook and MP3 track.

You can find out some of my top tips for using hypnobirthing during a caesarean birth in the blog post below:

When do I need to pay for a course?

A £50 deposit will secure your space on any of my courses. If you are booking a group course then the links to pay your deposit are below.

If you are wanting to reserve your space on any other type of course then you do need to get in touch first to make sure that I have availability. The balance of the course does not need to be paid until the week before your first session (I will be in touch via email to arrange this).

What areas do you teach hypnobirthing in?

I offer all of my courses online so that I can support you no matter where you live, I have taught hypnobirthing all over the world, from Leeds to Australia.

My most popular course is my in person, face to face group, hypnobirthing course at my home in Castleford, Wakefield (West Yorkshire). Please note that spaces fill fast, so please don’t leave it too late to reserve your spot.

If you would prefer a private, 121 hypnobirthing course, then I am able to travel (usually up to 1 hour away) to deliver a course, there may be a small petrol fee depending on how far away you live from my home address, or you are more than welcome to come to my house for your course.

Is it ever too late to start a hypnobirthing course?

It’s very rare for it to be too late in your pregnancy to start a hypnobirthing course, I have taught people before at 38 weeks pregnant.

Whilst it is beneficial to start a hypnobirthing course earlier in pregnancy, you will still learn plenty of techniques to help you have a calm and confident birth at any stage of pregnancy.

I have developed an intensive course purely for this reason but be quick and get in touch now to make sure that I can squeeze you.
